NBA: Checkers: Game 7: Hawks win game 3
Posted On July 4, 2021
The Hawks, with a victory that would have tied their longest winning streak in franchise history, won Game 7 of the NBA Finals tonight, 5-2.
The Hawks were led by seven players who scored at least 15 points, including All-Star guard Kawhi Leonard (13 points), All-NBA reserve guard Mike Muscala (10 points) and veteran forward Michael Carter-Williams (11 points).
The 76ers, the defending champions, also won Game 6 in overtime, defeating Cleveland 114-105.
Philadelphia was led by All-star guard Isaiah Thomas (17 points), who was playing for the first time since he tore his ACL in Game 3 of the 2015 NBA Finals.
Thomas was replaced by Michael Carter Williams in the fourth quarter after he suffered a left ankle injury in the second quarter.
The 76s shot a season-low 37.5 percent (17-for-50) and were outrebounded 37-21.
Philadelphia led by as many as 13 points in the third quarter and trailed by as few as nine.
Philadelphia finished with 36 assists on 25 field goals, its lowest average in a Game 7 since the 2004 Eastern Conference Finals against Atlanta.
The Hawks will have the chance to play again on Sunday night, when they face the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Sixers have a bye in the first round of the playoffs and will have three days to prepare.
